the 6.7 EARTHQUAKE
Last Monday, Februay 6th, Cebu was hit by a 6.7 earthquake with its epicenter at 6.9 magnitude in Negros Island. I was already at the office (Cebu City) when it happened at around 11:30am to 12:00 noon. I have had past earthquake experiences but last Monday was the strongest so far for me, it lasted about 30 seconds and the first 3 seconds were a little slow but after that I can really feel the building was shaking and I thought it would collapse, so I started to get worried. My colleagues were running toward the emergency exit for fear of the aftershock. So, we immediately went outside the building and walk fast towards an open area. We waited for more than 2 hours for the building to be cleared for occupancy and so we went back in and did our work just like normal days.
the TSUNAMI SCARE
After about an hour since we got back to the office, our admin staff told us there’s another emergency, this time it’s tsunami – so we headed to the window and saw a mass of people, they were running from downtown area towards our area in uptown Cebu, so we then shut down our computers and answer the unknown reality.
When we were outside, carried away by the people’s reactions, crying, running, panicking, we initially went with their direction. Not knowing exactly why they’re running, I asked around and I found out they were running because the water had allegedly started to submerge Colon in downtown Cebu. As I didn’t know which direction to take, I invited my colleagues to go to our assembly area (Fuente Osmena Circle) and so we did, we stay put until the police from the roving patrol car announced to not panic because there was no tsunami. As I was more comfortable after that, I invited my friend to have some refreshments before walking our way to Ayala Center for a ride back home.
That was my February 6th, something I can never forget! What a day!
and the REALITY
I realized that:
- Life is just temporary
- That acts of God could happen at a split second
- That we have to value all the blessings we have
- That life is too short to be serious
- That we have to savor each moment
- That we have to trust in our gut and stay calm at all times
God bless us all!

I really hope your safe and pray. It’s so scary and serious issue.

Just the sort of excitement you don’t really need. Pleased to hear it was a false alarm
yeah, I was more scared by people’s reactions, haha…. yeah, glad it was just a false alarm…
thanks guys, looks like I’m having issues with my connection. I will visit your sites soon. Stay safe
At least it served as a tsunami drill. Glad you’re okay after the quake. 6.9 is no joke.
It did serve its purpose, at least I know the drill. Speaking of drill, I remember your “Launch” post, haha…
Yeah it was no joke at all, it was my first time and I thought the building would really collapse. Glad to know there were no casualties reported in Cebu but sad to say there were 43 dead or even more in the neighboring province of Negros Oriental.
Thanks my friend, stay blessed!
mmmm Very impressive !
Thanks John, nice to have you here. Have a great day!

Thanks Cafe23, yeah glad there was no tsunami, I don’t mind the false alarm, at least I know how to follow my gut feel the next time it would happen again, I pray not.
Glad you love my thoughts. Thanks for dropping by. Stay blessed!
Scary earthquake, and I’m glad to hear it got no worse.
When panic sets in, its hard to stop, so I was relieved that you found a safe place until the Police came and told you that the tsunami was a false alarm.
When things like this happen, it makes us re-assess our lives and just how fragile we are in this system of things, so your thoughts are very appropriate.
Stay safe aRVee.
Thanks Barb, yeah sometimes people’s reactions are more frightening than the actual situation. haha…
Glad I experienced it though, at least I know the drill when the same thing happens, which I hope not…
Thanks for noticing my thoughts, life is indeed fragile… Have a great Barb and stay safe as well
Todd, Rumpydog, Cee, Tanadda, thanks

thanks Jo, I appreciate your thoughts.. Yeah it was indeed pretty scary back in my work place then because when I went home that day, it was just like normal… But honestly, I was more scared by people’s reactions, haha
Good to know you have a tsunami warning system in place… You will definitely get a warning whenever there is one but let’s all hope not…
I agree – it is a pretty scary prospect.

Thanks bai, yeah it was such an awakening. I never thought I can get carried away by people’s reactions. It was an experience I can never forget. I agree God is always there and no matter how much we love our life, if He wants to get it back, He gets it back like a thief at night…
Mayris, thanks
I’m glad that you are safe and a lot of our country men. My family in Iloilo got scared too and so are my sister’s husband family in Bacolod. I hope and pray that the Philippines will be spared from nature’s wrath. Last December flood and typhoons were a tragedy and It’s hard to see our people suffer again and again. We all need to pray for one another, help one another. God bless you….
thanks for this IT, just read this, sorry about that… thanks for your constant support. Stay blessed!
