Do taxi drivers charge a tip or short-changed in Cebu?

  • Unlike in some areas in the Philippines, I’m proud to say majority of the taxi drivers do not charge a tip or short-change you unless your destination is far from their usual route. If they do, they usually say it beforehand.
  • Exception: If you are going to and from the airport, expect a negotiation, it’s common. Look for the airport taxi instead (the yellow one)
  • How do I know I’m charged more than the usual rate?: Depends really on your point of destination, so if your destination from the airport is Cebu City or Mandaue City (vice versa) and you are negotiating for say 400 or 500 pesos then I would have to say, you are charged more, so counter a reasonable range between 150-250 pesos (for Mandaue City) or 200-300 pesos (for Cebu City). If you do not agree with the rate, look for the airport taxi (the yellow one)
What is Cebu’s Area Code?
  • Cebu’s Area Code is 032

    • when dialing within the Philippines and outside Cebu, use 032 (then the seven digit telephone number)

  • You can put it anywhere but to expedite delivery of your posts, our post offices in the Philippines adopted a system where to correctly place the Postal Code. It should be immediately before the city or municipality in order for the postman to quickly sort the letters. For example if you have to mail a letter for your friend in Cebu City, Cebu, use the following example:
    • Juan de la Cruz
    • 111 Escario St, Capitol Site
    • 6000 Cebu City
    • Cebu, Philippines
